Painting Painting Painting

I have been an expressionist painter for more than 50 years. I attempt to express drama, passion, joy and integrity in my paintings.

I employ a "direct painting" approach where the act of painting, including all detail and spontaneity, are recorded without alteration.

My works are not preconceived. They begin with a blank canvas and portray the event as it unfolds. Visual content - the relationship and dialogue between visual elements in the painting are realized through this process.

Most of my canvases are six feet by eight feet, or larger, allowing me to be physically involved in the painting. I work with the canvas on the floor to control runs and drips.

I believe that Expressionist painting still has a vital role to play in today's art world because of its visual significance. It is one of the most viable art forms for serious painters.
